AWC Workshops & Schedule

Adriatic Writers Conference is the first literary conference of its kind in Croatia.

Each day begins with an intensive two-hour fiction workshop (5-7 participants per workshop) led by passionate and motivating instructors. Receive valuable feedback and guidance on your work-in-progress from your instructors and peers, and leave feeling inspired with a clear path towards revision. We aim to tailor the workshops to each individual writer’s goals: Prior to the workshop, we’ll ask participants to submit a list of what they feel they most need help with, addressing immediate challenges and needs in an effort to break through blocks and barriers.

The second annual AWC 2026 workshop instructors are bestselling author, podcast creator, and award-winning journalist Jo Piazza (EVERYONE IS LYING TO YOU; THE SICILIAN INHERITANCE) and AWC founder and award-winning author and journalist Kristin Vuković (THE CHEESEMAKER’S DAUGHTER), who will be co-teaching together. AWC welcomes workshop instructor Andrea Bartz (THE LAST FERRY OUT)—journalist and New York Times bestselling author of the Reese’s Book Club pick WE WERE NEVER HERE. Bestselling novelist and book coach Lidija Hilje (SLANTING TOWARDS THE SEA) will join as a guest master class instructor for the second year, and Mindy’s Book Studio author and award-winning journalist Shelia Yasmin Marikar (INCIDENTALS, coming 3.31.25; FRIENDS IN NAPA) will lead a master class on framing a premise and pitch.

Afternoon panels include author marketing and publicity; revision; and publishing. Each participant will also have one half-hour meeting with your workshop instructor(s); and free time for writing, resting, or exploring the island of Lošinj (see Island Activities). We’ll also host an “open mic” night, where participants will have the opportunity to publicly read their work.

Schedule: May 24-30, 2026

Sunday, 24 May: 2pm: Transfer from Zagreb Airport to Lošinj via shared van, arriving at 6:30pm. Check into Hotel Bellevue. Dinner on your own.

Monday, 25 May: 10am-noon: craft discussion & writing workshop. Lunch on your own.
